What's the first pair of shoes you remember?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 31, 2007:
The first pair of shoes I remember vividly are not from very long ago. They were a pair of blue leather sandals which I really wish I still had. Sturdy, simple, very comfortable and quite different from the kinds of wal-mart sandals one buys today. One of the main things they had going for them was the catch that closed them didn't rub the side of my ankle like sandals tend to do.
I got them at a nice little store down a street near the market in Devises, back in February of... 2001 I think, and my grandmother bought them for me.
Having thought about it I've decided these really are the first pair of shoes I can say I properly remember. Before that all my memory can conjure up are vague images of generic tennis shoes, wellingtons, the occassional cowboy boot, and if I did anything special in them I don't recall the shoes playing a big part.
(Whereas in these sandals I did things like climb the rocks at Salisbury!)
